05.31.19 | The Legal 500 Recognizes Banner Witcoff for Patent and Trademark Practices in 2019 Edition

Banner Witcoff’s patent and trademark practices are
recognized in the 2019 U.S. edition of The Legal 500, a guide of leading law
firms and practitioners across the country. The Legal 500 also highlighted
several firm attorneys for their work in these areas.

The guide lists Banner Witcoff as a top firm in the
“Patents: Prosecution” practice area, which includes reexamination and
post-grand proceedings, and the “Trademarks: Non-Contentious” practice area
that covers prosecution, portfolio management and licensing.

According to The Legal 500, Banner Witcoff “has particular
strength in the procurement of design patents and continues to grow its utility
patent practice. The recent caseload shows a varied sector spread, ranging from
the insurance and financial services sectors to the technology, electronics and
retail sectors. Standout instructions include prosecuting a variety of patents
for Brother Industries, including patents covering network systems, printer
cartridges and image recording, and processing for multi-function devices and
tape-reading devices. The group is among the most active PTAB practices in the
market for petitioners, but also acts for patents owners, an example of which
included the successful defense of Nike in two IPRs filed by Skechers regarding
design patents for Nike’s Free outsole designs.”

The guide highlights the following Banner Witcoff attorneys as key contacts in the firm’s patent practice:  Joseph Berghammer, Ross DannenbergJohn Hutchins, Robert Katz, Christopher McKee, Frederic Meeker, Binal Patel, Joseph Potenza, and Christopher Renk.

The Legal 500 wrote this of the firm’s trademark practice:

Banner Witcoff’s “‘very proficient’ practice is noted for its ‘good commercial outlook and strength in depth’. The IP-boutique possesses experience in portfolio management, prosecution, enforcement, defense and licensing matters. Helen Hill Minsker, Joseph Berghammer and Richard Stockton are among the key names and form a team with specialist knowledge of the financial, travel, insurance, internet, athletic apparel and consumer electronics industries.
