Christian began his career in Intellectual Property at the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a patent examiner. During his tenure as an examiner, Christian examined applications in a variety of computer-related technologies, including task management, video compression, computer networking, network security, data encryption, anti-virus, intrusion detection, authentication, authorization, and cryptography. In 2008, Christian was recognized by the American Intellectual Property Law Association as an Outstanding Examiner.

In 2013, Christian joined the ranks of New Jersey’s highest-rated intellectual property firm. As an associate, patent preparation and prosecution constituted a large part of his practice. While Christian’s prosecution practice focused on computer-related inventions, he also worked on applications for an assortment of technologies, including photolithography, athletic equipment, autonomous vehicles, optics, memory devices, medical devices, and undergarments. In addition to his prosecution practice, Christian regularly performed patent searches, filed trademark applications, participated in due diligence studies, and contributed to freedom-to-operate and right-to-use opinions.

Looking to get a better sense of the business-side of patents, Christian joined a tech start-up in 2015 that focused on encrypted and ephemeral communications. In his in-house counsel role, he brought the patent work in-house and oversaw the growth of the patent portfolio himself. In addition to managing the patent portfolio, Christian performed due diligence on a target company, performed patent landscape studies, and advised management on patent strategy and general intellectual property matters.
